So lets see first off what a 3d printer really is?

What ever you are thinking about buying your first 3-D printer or maybe you’ve gotten one recently and are trying to figure it out or perhaps you’ve been at this for a while ,  I’m gonna show you some things about the in’s and out’s of buying a 3D Printer.

I wish I knew when I got started, but hopefully I will shed a  little bit of background here, so about five or six years ago a friend of mine recommended a book called makers,  by Chris Anderson,  so makers is all about people who want to make things great and to make things and use different technologies to do them as if.

One of the explanations he gave me in this book was that in the future most everybody will be a manufacture,  whatever they want in there heart that sounds pretty incredible they can get. So a few  ago I was able to buy a printer for about $700. This wast the first 3D printer I ever had.

I was very excited about how  I loved it and was just so digging it.  But my mind was asking or  feeling like,  can I  create anything I want to have on my own house?  I quickly realized however that it was not so easy to start 3-D printing.  I mean I had to tweak and just about modify everything.

I threw away so many prints that had failed there’s just so many things I didn’t get and it took me quite a while to understand some of those things.

So fast forward even further, so just a little while ago I picked up a TiVo tornado from here. This printer is night and day compared to my first printer, while this is still a great printer and there are several things that you get with a more modern printer nowadays not to mention the price.  This printer cost $340 while this one is about $700 so less than half the price I was able to get some great features like hey, imagine printing a Darth Vader helmet or a football helmet I mean hey, you have access to  it and it’s got a great interface.

I can make a lot of adjustments and controls right here on the printer and pretty killer so let’s jump into this.   I’ve actually called a bunch of my buddies from  and asked them to try to find out you know what kind of things took them a while to get used to so let’s take a look at what they they said where on there list and probably number one most important for them was the leveling.

That first layer squish what I mean by squish is the leveling , is making sure the bed or the area gets printed on is actually nice and flat and it’s all equidistant from where the actual print head or heat is going to go , if you got for example your print head on it or saw your heat and his post to the bed right here but on the other side it’s a quarter inch away or even an eighth of an inch away then you’re gonna have problems and your printers not gonna stick and it gets further away from the hot air so you want to make sure that your bed is nice and level.

Get a piece of paper on your bed starting the first corner you’re gonna put it in that corner and then slide your paper underneath the paper underneath the hot air and in between the bed and actually have support in the route if it doesn’t fit under there at all close to your bed easily , that is actually pretty good gauge of a level back proceed to do that on each of the remaining three corners  back to the first one.

First you want to maybe go through a couple times real quick the bed leveler to attach and that will actually do a lot of work for you and getting it to just the right spot but if you have to do it manually it’s really not a big deal just takes a couple minutes so you don’t have to do it every time just whenever things start to get out of whack which happens over time .

A bad leveling has everything to do with that first layer square. The first layer squares what I mean by that is making sure that that first has agreed because here on that first layer of whatever it is you’re printing it is really well to the bed itself and the distance that you have between your heat and and your bed is what makes the actual first layer squished  properly or not occur properly most likely the gist of it is like to see in this quick illustration here do you want your bead of your first layer what’s coming out of the heat and to squish down onto the bed just a little bit.

So that kind of  has a semi circle rather than a full circle and certainly not a flattened pancake if you have to air on one side of the other air on the side of making a little bit too squished because then you’re going to get a good adhesion and it’s not gonna go anywhere but if you do it to round for the bed it’s just not gonna grab onto the bed and then you likely have a field trip that’s my number one issue and probably the reason for most failed friends

To print on glass different printers are gonna come with different printing services and a lot of them have different attributes. some really great, some not so great.  But I think it really makes a big difference to keep things consistent and print on glass for a few reasons.  Number one glass is very dense very hard and very flat that makes things a lot easier when you’re printing because the density it spreads the heat really evenly,  does a really good job with that because of the hardness and because of that nice flat surface you can take things off of it really well and a lot of times it cools down really well making things easy to pop and print off rather than have to really cry out and work at it  ,  in my opinion it makes things so much easier on my printer.

Well I hope that helped you get a little better understanding of 3d printing and some of the things you may expect. But let me tell you , it is so much fun and the things you can make with it is just amazing!
